誠に有り難うございます!

i know YongFook has been on a slimming regime lately, but I got a shock at how much weight he had lost with his latest before-&-after comparison. buddy, I like you better with some meat on. the thing is i realised with my own fat shredding experience, that it’s very difficult to “spot” fat loss. by the time i trim my tummy to reveal a semblance of a six pack, my face gets too gaunt. and as i have rather severe acne scarring (from my army days, I HATE YOU SAF!!!), my scars become more obvious when i have low fat content on my face. what’s a boy gotta do to look good? they never make it easy. why can’t we pig out on sinful food and look good at the same time? why must there be an inverse relationship?
which brings me to my whirlwind Kuala Lumpur trip over the weekend (just returned this afternoon)! i had previously swore (after a horrendous experience many years back) never to step foot into KL ever again – but hey, what did the old folks say about “never say ‘never’” again – Kev, Johnson and i, in a spur of spontaneity, had decided to pop up to the neighbouring country to 1) catch Sandy Lam in concert 2) pig out on local hawker fare.
wa lau, i ate alot okay!? chicken wings after wings, oyster omelette (our verdict is Malaysia’s Or Luah is ZE BEST!!! Singapore got no fight okay? it’s so CRISPY and fresh at the same time!), fried carrot cake, fried kuey teow, fried beancurd, nasi lemak, laksa, bbq stingray, belachan this belachan that!! OMG, lard overdose.
just in 2 days, my tummy swelled up so big. the aftermath will take a week of strict dieting and gym work to undo. i did 20 laps in the pool tonight! and dinner was Oven Roasted Chicken Breast & Turkey Ham Salad. totally no carbo. atonement.

oh! for those who travel to KL by air, i’d like to suggest traveling by coach. this trip, we used Transtar‘s Solitaire First Class cos we wanted to be very “li hai”, “super glam”, and “tai tai”. HAHAHA. turned out the experience was really pleasant. the traveling was totally pain-free. takes 5 hours (compare this to taking a flight – checking in at airport, waiting, flight time, customs checks, traveling to and from the airport, etc). the super coach comes with a Cocoon Seat which reclines fully (see image above: so much leg room!), and an on-board entertainment system (movies, games, and free wifi!). maciam SIA First Class! meals are served on board (nothing fancy, just microwavable food but highly edible), along with hot beverages. clearing immigration and customs on both sides couldn’t be breezier. highly recommended. but then again, we don’t see ourselves back in KL anytime soon. maybe in another decade.

Back to the grind after 4 weeks of slacking and feasting. Momentum went outta the window after Tokyo trip and just couldn’t shake off that sweet tooth after I got back.

i just received this huge parcel of chocolates, sweets, cakes & pastries from one of my employees in Germany (they are sweet like that). it’s so going to jeopardise my diet! i already ate half a pack of the almond vanilla cookies!! and a stick of Bifi. ACK!!

there was a fair bit of yoyo-ing in between, but i was shocked when i did a comparison of what my mid section was like 3 years ago. i’ve never been fat or plump, or even fleshy. in fact most would say i’ve been “skinny” or “thin” all my life. but would you just refer that the 2005 shot? yikes! and that chest was so uneven! my right arm is a lil longer than my left, so when I did resistance training mostly on machines way back then, one side did most of the work. i’ve switched over to free weights mostly these days to correct that.
we pigged out quite a bit today. i ate half a Sticky Date Cake DRENCHED (maybe flooded is a better word!) with Toffee Sauce and topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
guitly as charged. 明日、運動をやるんです!

we’ve started our Body Attack classes. once a week. super siong ah!! there’s this super tok gong ang mo lady in our class – she’s tall, lean, pretty, poised, and looks great throughout the hour-long session whilst i pant like mad between sets. the calves and thighs burn so much. veggie legs after each class. i hope to get better each week. new routine next week. let’s hope they have fun steps.
i wanna get started with the Body Jam classes too. it’s been a while since i danced choreography!
also, shd get rolling with yoga once a week. so 3 classes each week, alternating with resistance training every other day. =)
doing ok diet wise. being a lao cai myself now, i’ve started to enjoy eating more fruits and veggie which i didn’t particularly enjoy nor detest in the past – if there’s some on the table/fridge i’d eat. but now, i’d buy fruits!! what a change. my current addiction – Japanese pears.

been doing quite well with watching my diet. but i still get my weekly oily fix in such forms as carrot cake and bbq meat! very moderated portions of course! just gotta spend more time on the treadmill if i indulged a bit more that day. i came down with a flu for about 5 days which disrupted the momentum gathered earlier. took it easy for 2 sessions, but started with my Fartlek routine today. okay, stop giggling!! it’s got nothing to do with letting out gas on the treadmill whatsoever, although if you could do that, it may help burn an extra calorie or two by the end of the workout.
Fartlek is more commonly known as H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training). interval training is extremely effective for fat loss and general conditioning. the basic idea is to alternate periods of high intensity work with periods of low intensity work. so here’s the good news: it’s been touted as the “miracle fat torch” and the most powerful type of cardio; many athletes and trainers swear by its magic.
the exact mechanism of how this works is still unclear, but it is thought that interval training creates a significant oxygen debt, which signals to the body to preferentially burn fat after the workout. it also appears to create a hormonal environment that is favourable to mobilizing fat while preserving muscle tissue.
so anyway, i’ve embarked on this and it’s already made running a wee bit more fun! armed with that and Jordan Knight, let’s hope i see good results in the weeks to come!
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG_mCdaXkfc]
i’ve always liked Jordan Knight most outta all the NKOTB boys. well, Stay The Same Joey Mcintyre’s not half bad too. loved that song, it’s a classic. but anyhowzah, JK’s looking hawt in his solo appearance on their recent NKOTB tour. okay that get up’s a tad Michael Jacksony, but check out that mid section. superb for a guy at 38!! i’m gonna make him my new source of inspir-abs-tion.

i know my pal Jamez would, in the past, say the fats are “invisible”, but i believe he (who’s now in tip top physique after being really dedicated to shedding his own) will agree there’s a huge difference between being lean, and SUPER lean. i want to be SUPER LEAN!!! i’m always stuck at a 4 + 1 pack. argh. i’m going to make it 6 this time round!! MUST.DO.IT!
i’m only going to allow myself one day outta the week for slacking. so that means i can take in happy foods like fried chicken, zinger burgers, chips, ice cream (okay, max 2 scoops! no whipped cream), hawker centre fare (but no cai tao gueh), and wine/champagne on this day. i’ll most probably find it hard to pig out once i’m calorie counting anyway.
i told Jamez i’d embarrass him by showing his new bod to the world! HAHAHA. see, this is want i call lean machine okay? Jamez, i’m going to stare at your photo on my iPhone when i run on the treadmill!!! HAHAHA. this reminds me of those Japanese girls who put on their make up in cafes whilst referring to their model on their handphone screens! so irritating!! lol.
but seriously, it takes alot of discipline. and one of the best ways is to publish all the vain photos so you can track your progress. or regress. haha.
頑張って!
